Second Indo-Swedish Meeting

The first meeting of the Indo-Swedish Working Group on Mathematics Education was held at the University of Gothenberg from June 6-8, 2010. The initiative for the meeting was taken by His Excellency, Mr. Balakrishna Shetty, the then Indian Ambassador to Sweden and Latvia, and supported by NBHM. The meeting resulted in intensive discussions on various aspects of mathematics education in India and Sweden, and gave rise to several recommendations. A follow-up meeting of the working group was held at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR, Mumbai from February 24 to 26, 2011. The meeting took up the threads identified as important in the first meeting. In particular, the professional development of teachers was identified as an important issue at the first meeting, together with the development of resources to support the work of mathematics teachers. Hence, discussion of issues relating to teacher development and the use of technology at various levels of mathematics education was an important focus of the meeting.
