I work with retro equipment and soundproofing systems. One of the criteria is noise. Is there a difference in acoustics between solid-state converters and old school? I am especially interested in the opinion of those who have installed them in residential or office areas.

Solid-state is noticeably quieter, especially at low speeds. We have ventilation through a thin partition – it used to hum, now it’s almost inaudible.

I understand your priority very well. I work with radio equipment and acoustics. I specifically chose a low-noise solid-state unit from among the 50hz solid state frequency converters models. Convection cooling, no humming from transformers, fans are almost inaudible. Previously, with a motor generator, it was a real “stove” with constant background hum. For sensitive spaces, this is an excellent solution.
