Any student who intends to get higher education abroad needs to take some entrance exams, which will depend on the program, country, and even in some cases, the institute. Some of the most common entrance exams to study abroad are:

1. TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language and IELTS, International English Language Testing System. These are two highly popular language proficiency tests undertaken by students whose first language is not the English language. Both the tests test reading, writing, listening, and speaking. They are accepted in all countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia.

2. SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and ACT (American College Testing) are major admissions requirements for undergraduate programs, primarily in the US. These tests are extremely useful in measuring the math, reading, writing, and analytical skills of a student.

3. GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is primarily required in a graduate course in the US, and to an extent in a few European countries too. It tests one’s verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing abilities and is mostly used for arts, sciences, and engineering courses.

4. Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is very imperative for MBA students who wish to pursue their studies abroad. It particularly focuses on the analytical writing, integrated reasoning, and quantitative and verbal skills-a critical component of every business student.

5. MCAT, LSAT – Test streams primarily intended for medical and law schools in the US and Canada.

MCAT: A test of scientific knowledge and reasoning

LSAT: A measure of logical and analytic reasoning skills for the study of law.

Other tests include Duolingo English Test and PTE (Pearson Test of English), which are also coming on fast as being more convenient, especially post-pandemic. They also serve as an alternative to the IELTS and TOEFL, thus making it an option for students.

Appreciative of the program requirements at the country level, they can prepare for success while attending international education.
