Diablo 4 Continues to Tease Secret Cow Level

<p>Diablo 4 enthusiasts have unearthed a series of intriguing items in the game’s database, which bear a striking resemblance to the artifacts used to access the Secret Cow Level and Whimsyshire in Diablo 3. Although these items might merely be Easter eggs or red herrings, some players are convinced they are hints pointing to the Diablo 4 incarnation of the Secret Cow Level.</p><p>Since its launch in June 2023, fans have been diligently searching Diablo 4 for any indication of the Secret Cow Level, a humorous staple in the series. Despite uncovering numerous clues suggesting its presence, players have yet to locate this enigmatic realm or its Diablo 4 counterpart.</p><p>Recently, Wowhead highlighted several new Diablo 4 items found by the D4 secret-finding Discord, which echo items from Diablo 3 used to open secret portals. The Rusted Bardiche, for instance, mirrors the Bovine Bardiche, which, when transmuted in Kanai’s Cube, opens a gate to Not The Cow Level in Diablo 3. Similarly, the Rusted Old Bell, Crooked Staff, and Jabbering Gemstone share flavor text and resemble Wirt’s Bell, the Staff of Herding, and the Gibbering Gemstone—the components needed to access Whimsyshire in Diablo 3.</p><p>The Secret Cow Level originated as a fan-made hoax in the original Diablo. It later became an in-joke when Blizzard incorporated Easter eggs into Diablo: Hellfire and StarCraft, before finally making an in-game appearance in Diablo 2 as Moo Moo Farm and in World of Warcraft during the Diablo 20th anniversary event. Diablo 3 introduced the rainbow-filled Whimsyshire, along with Not The Cow Level for the game’s third anniversary.</p><p>Although the urban legend or its equivalent remains undiscovered in Diablo 4, players have found various clues. Some discovered the Forlorn Hovel by killing cows, which allegedly drop items reminiscent of the original keys to the Secret Cow Level. Others performed cleansing rituals at mysterious ox statues or explored a map section resembling a cow’s head. Diablo 4 has playfully denied the existence of a Secret Cow Level, but this has only fueled players’ determination to uncover it.</p>
