Learn how it works and how to convert it to a time format you’re used to. Although the phrase “military time – fles.hlc.edu.tw -” is commonly used, this time system was not invented by the military. The 24-hour clock had already been employed throughout Europe for years before the U.S. military adopted it. In most countries, computers by default show the time in 24-hour notation. For example, Microsoft Windows and macOS activate the 12-hour notation by default only if a computer is in a handful of specific language and region settings. The 24-hour system is commonly used in text-based interfaces. POSIX programs such as ls default to displaying timestamps in 24-hour format. As world wars progressed, there were major improvements from every country in strategy and communication. One of these improvements being the adaptation of the 24 hour clock because the 12 hour clock posed too much room for error. The United States Navy adopted the 24-hour system in 1920 and later by the Army in 1942 and until today Navy Seals set their watches to military time. The Egyptians measured night and day independently. During the day, they used the sun to measure time. This means the Egyptians used two separate clocks, dividing day and night into two disproportionate parts. Since you can now read military time like a cadet, it’s time to talk like one too. Speaking military time is just as important as reading and calculating it.
